Making off with the snow under the cover of darkness
Long before the sun rose Tuesday, Port Washington Street Department crews went to work cleaning up downtown after the first major snowstorm of the season on Friday night and early Saturday. Small loaders were used to push snow piled along sidewalks into streets, where it was plowed into rows. An industrial-sized snowthrower was then used to load a convoy of dump trucks that hauled the snow to the city yard on Moore Road. Main Street (pictured here) was one of the last streets to be cleared, just in time for early morning traffic. Photos by Bill Schanen IV
