Locals lead soccer team to silver in national tourney

It wasn’t looking good for the Lakeshore United Football Club’s U-18 Girls Navy team in a semifinal of the United States Youth Soccer Association President’s Cup.

Detroit City Football Club held a 1-0 lead late in the game, and Lakeshore had just missed a penalty kick to tie it. Both teams were exhausted from heat in Kansas City, Kan.

But Lakeshore had Cora Erickson, who had just led the state in goals and won a Division 4 state title with Cedar Grove-Belgium High School.
