Local students earn degrees at UW-Madison

Thirty-four area students received degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison during a May 9 commencement ceremony held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Best-selling author James Patterson, the commencement speaker, counseled graduates on persistence and resilience, telling them, “Hey, it’s hard now, but it’s been hard before. When I graduated from college, the war in Vietnam was raging, there was a draft . . . . When my dad graduated, he got shipped off to Europe and WWII.”

Michael Richter of Fredonia graduated with distinction, earning a bachelor of business administration degree in actuarial science.

Hannah Wildermuth of Fredonia also graduated with distinction, receiving a bachelor of science degree in biology.

Thomas Artz of Grafton earned a  bachelor of business administration degree in accounting.

Benjamin Bauman of Grafton received a  bachelor of arts degree in economics.

Grafton’s Taylor Bould earned bachelor’s degrees in business, management and human resources, marketing and risk management and insurance

Ethan Chmiel of Grafton received a bachelor of science degree in economics.

Andrew Gibson of Grafton earned a bachelor of science degree in microbiology.

Sydney Handrich of Grafton received her doctorate in law.

Grafton’s Christian Kadrich earned a bachelor of business administration degree in finance, investment and banking.

Lukas Kaestner of Grafton received a master of science degree in industrial engineering.

Nikko Manning of Grafton earned a doctor of physical therapy degree.
