Lions have been busy in Fredonia

The Fredonia Lions Club has been busy helping the community and recognizing those who do the same. Earlier this year, Al Krier, secretary of the club, presented Lions Community Service Awards to Diana Schmit (left in far left photo) and Sara Zimdars. Under Zimdars’ guidance, fourth-graders at Ozaukee Elementary School made personalized Christmas cards that the Lions Club  distributed to single senior citizens. Schmit was recognized for the assistance she provided her late husband Ron that allowed him to remain active in the Lions Club for decades. The club also returned to its mission of providing eye screenings for the children, which had been curtailed by the pandemic, by checking the eyesight of 315 Ozaukee Elementary School students earlier this year. Working with students were Ralph Luedtke (middle photo), a former Fredonia Lion who is now a member of the Port Washington club, and Jerry Shoemaker (photo at right).     Photos by Sam Arendt
