Lightning lose first game of season
The Lakeshore Lightning co-op girls’ high school hockey team lost its first game of the season on Dec. 17.
Host Beaver Dam beat the Lightning, 3-2, in double overtime in a battle of conference leaders from the Eastern Shores and Badger Girls. It’s the same score the Lightning beat Beaver Dam by in overtime on Nov. 29.
Down 1-0 in the third period, Lightning defenseman Chloe Katsma scored on an assist by Grafton freshman Erin Brezovar.
Beaver Dam took the lead again and the Lightning’s Addi Novack tied the game on an assist by Port Washington senior Aaliyah Lathrop with nine minutes left.
In overtime, the Lightning took consecutive pentalties and were able to kill off a five-on-three advantage for nearly two minutes.
In double overtime, which included three skaters from each team, Beaver Dam’s Brenna Rhodes scored the winner.
The Lightning, 7-1-1, were to host Bay Area on Saturday, Dec. 21. They play Central Wisconsin in Madison on Thursday, Dec. 26, and in the Culver Cup tournament in Madison on Friday, Dec. 27, and Saturday, Dec. 28.
