Library to kick off summer reading program, host full calendar of events

The Oscar Grady Library in Saukville will kick off its summer reading program for children, teenagers and adults with a sign-up event from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 13, that includes ice cream and games.

For a list of reading program events, which run through Aug. 5, visit www.oscargradylibrary.org.

On Thursday, June 15, the library will sponsor the Badger Talk program “Eyes on the Skies: The current night sky, what to watch for and how to observe it,” presented by James Lattis, director of UW Space Place, at Tendick Nature Park, 3919 Highway O in the Town of Saukville.

The all-ages program will provide an introduction to the stars, constellations and other interesting objects in the summer sky.

Participants can craft a star at 6 p.m. Lattis’ program begins at 7 p.m.

The library will host outdoor morning storytimes for children on Tuesdays, June 20 through Aug. 1, and evening storytimes on Wednesdays, June 21 through Aug. 22.

The events will include stories, songs and dancing on the library lawn, unless it is raining. Then programs will be held inside the library.

There will be no story time on July 5 or during the week of July 17.

Registration is not required.

Among the special events hosted by the library will be the Miller and Mike Comedy Show at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22.

The show features former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clowns and includes plenty of comedy, juggling, audience participation and magic.

The library will host Touch-A-Truck from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29.

The event will give children an opportunity to explore the vehicles, such as police cars, fire trucks and ambulances, that keep the village running smoothly.

Among the library events for teenagers, specifically those 12 to 18 years old, is Origami Flight at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14.

The program will teach the Japanese art of paper folding and focus on creating birds and butterflies.

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, the library will host Faux Taxidermy for teens.

Participants will transform stuffed animals into mounted wall decor using paint, hot glue and donated materials.

The Ghostwriters Teen Writing Group will meet at the library on Wednesdays on June 18, July 5 and 19 and Aug. 2.

The group will work on fun writing exercises and discuss their writing.

The Oscar Grady Library is at 151 S. Main St.
