LETTER: To stop mass shootings, don’t restrict guns, hire more police

To Ozaukee Press:

The entire nation has been in mourning because of recent events and the individuals that attacked innocent American lives need to be held accountable. However, these shootings did not stop a deep politicization of gun rights by the Democrats, Tony Evers included.

Instead of allowing the proper time to mourn the lives lost, Evers and his Democratic regime were quick to propose more restrictive gun control policies. Even in his statement after the Uvalde shooting, Evers called for an emergency session to try to push through more partisan gun control.

We all know that the guns used during recent tragedies don’t act on their own and rely on extraneous forces to cause such massacres. We know that banning all guns will not put an end to these shootings, and illegal guns will always find their way into the hands of those intending to harm. Instead of moving towards gun control, Wisconsin needs to promote the rule of law and hire more police officers.

This is why I support Tim Michels for governor. He supports local police, hiring more officers and mandatory minimum sentences for convicted felons who possess guns.
