LETTER: Reserve parking spaces near harbor for fishing customers

To Ozaukee Press:

I would like to share some observations and recommendations regarding the public parking lot facing the marina adjacent to restaurants, bar and retail.

On a daily basis, seven days a week, parking is full from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Downtown workers take up most of the parking spaces, leaving only a few spots for customers and visitors to the marina and downtown areas.  

Visitors come to Port and bring children, dogs, strollers, and wheelchairs with elderly family members. It is unacceptable to expect them to secure parking two or three blocks away.

Employees are sitting in these parking spaces eight hours a days and are capable of walking a few blocks.

My suggestions is that Port needs a parking garage partially paid for by these businesses where their employees can park.

The other suggestion is to allow the boat captains to have six parking spaces reserved for 15-minute pickup for their fishing customers to bring their vehicle with a  cooler to retrieve their catch. These spots would have a hefty fine for those who violate their use. The captain would provide a sign to be placed inside vehicle when the boat returns. These spaces would only be provided during the fishing season.

Port is growing and within two years there are going to be more people moving here, along with more visitors. This is all a good thing.
