To Ozaukee Press:
Thank you for the recent article on the Port High basketball team’s 1974 Braveland Conference championship season. It bought back many great memories.
Being able to see my friends be successful on the court was really special. The championship game against Menomonee Falls North started with the team coming out for warmups to the strains of “Jesus Christ Superstar” by the Port High band and the loud cheering of Port fans in a jampacked gym.
The game started with John Chronis hitting several outside shots (in today’s game they would be three-pointers) leading to a 15-0 start, with Port ultimately winning the game and the championship.
As a side note, Kim Mueller, the starting guard on the team, also wrote for the Ozaukee Press that year, writing articles about every game.
Thanks again for a nice article that documented a piece of Port Washington High School history.
