LETTER: To meet surging need, GSFD needs help of voters on April 2
To Ozaukee Press:
Since 2015, calls for emergency service continue to increase significantly for Grafton and Saukville—up 86% and 53% respectively—while the available number of emergency responders continues to decrease. In fact, a 2021 Wisconsin Policy Forum Report found that fire/EMS staffing in Grafton and Saukville is critically low.
As a result, the Town and Village of Grafton and Town and Village of Saukville have identified a need to hire additional full-time staff and formally create a joint Grafton-Saukville Fire Department to provide effective emergency medical, rescue and fire suppression services to the Grafton and Saukville communities, improve response times and improve emergency response reliability.
On April 2, residents of the Village and Town of Grafton and Town of Saukville will see a fire/EMS referendum question on the spring election ballot. Voters will be asked to decide whether or not to support an increase in their municipality’s annual tax levy, beginning with tax bills issued in December 2024, to hire 13 additional full-time staff.
On behalf of the Towns and Villages of Grafton and Saukville, we humbly encourage voters to make their voice heard on this important issue impacting our community on April 2.
Daniel Delorit, Grafton Village President
Andy Hebein, Saukville Village President
Lester Bartel, Grafton Town Chairman
Kevin Kimmes, Saukville Town Chairman
