LETTER: Lighthouse condos a beacon of goodwill in contentious times

It seems that many 2019 letters to the editor are angry letters, letters pointing the finger at “the other side” and inspiring angry replies.

I have a nice letter to share. My husband and I live in the Lighthouse Condominiums in Port Washington. We moved here about five years ago from our house in Bay View. We love our condo, our view, our town. And we have some very kind, considerate and nice neighbors who share this address with us.

I’m sure there is a wide representation of political views within the building, but opinions take a back seat when owners are given a chance to make a difference.

Last year, in December, a few of us decided to try a toy drive, with contributions going to the Port Washington Food Pantry. The response was overwhelming.

This year, my upstairs neighbor Karen and I talked about doing a warm-winter-coat drive during November. We’ve had such unseasonably cold weather already and several snowfalls, so there were area organizations asking for gently used cold weather gear. We put up a couple flyers on the condo bulletin boards and, once again, the response was very positive.

We collected more than 20 coats, lots of hats and some scarves and lots of non-perishable food items. All were delivered to Port’s food pantry. Neighbors helping Port neighbors who need a little assistance.

Here’s to the friends and neighbors who live at the Lighthouse. We’re so glad you lend a helping hand when asked.
