LETTER: Letter quote misrepresented views of Fredonia supervisor
To Ozaukee Press:
A letter to the editor published in last week’s Ozaukee Press was critical of me for the words of an Ozaukee Press reporter, not mine.
I had a phone conversation with Ozaukee Press Fredonia reporter Michael Babcock that became part of a news story in the Feb. 20 issue of the Press. In that conversation, I expressed my frustration with the opposing board members due to the lack of any useful input to positively resolve issues between Dave Cook (owner of the Little Kohler Haus) and the neighborhood.
The news story made it sound as though I was doubting the credibility of residents who may have spoken to other board members, which is simply not the case. I am somewhat surprised that comment from the news story would be presented in the letter of the editor published in the Press as a quote from me, which clearly it was not.
I respect the opinions of Tony Schneider, who wrote the letter to the editor, and Supr. Lance Leider, but believe there could be some common ground for Mr. Cook and the Town of Fredonia.
Chris Janik
Supervisor
Town of Fredonia
Editor’s note: The quote in the letter to the editor— “Janik said he doesn’t give a lot of credence to complaints privately expressed to board members”—was attributed to the Ozaukee Press news story and not to Supr. Janik. The sentence was a paraphrase of comments made in an interview. We regret any confusion as to its meaning.
