LETTER: Kudos to Wisconsin‘s voters, who led the nation in turnout

To Ozaukee Press:

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin and voters across the state celebrate Wisconsin’s strong turnout in the Nov. 8 election—the highest in the nation.

With nearly 64% of eligible voters casting a ballot, voters showed up in record numbers to make their voices heard. This turnout was especially notable regarding youth voters.

Democracy had a good day in Wisconsin on Nov. 8. We were thrilled to see so many voters making their voices heard in a way that works for them—whether that was voting absentee, at early voting sites or at the polls.”

Poll workers and election officials are the real heroes of this election season. Their training, preparation and devoted professionalism guided our early voting, ensured our polling places were safe and accessible and helped move millions of voters through the registration and voting experience yesterday.

Our election administrators are counting every vote, going through the checks and will eventually certify the results.

Though Wisconsinites showed up in record numbers, too many voters sat out. We’ll keep working to inform and engage voters so we can achieve the democracy the people of Wisconsin deserve.
