LETTER: Investments in our schools critical to children’s future

To Ozaukee Press:

Our schools are the heart of our community, shaping the future for our children. That’s why the proposed construction of a new Saukville Elementary School and the replacement of the roof and other systems at Thomas Jefferson Middle School are critical investments.

Saukville Elementary is outdated and no longer meets modern educational needs. A new school will provide improved learning spaces, with modern classrooms and better technology integration to enhance education. It will enhance safety and accessibility, with secure and ADA compliant entrances to ensure a safer, more inclusive environment.

A new energy efficient facility lowers operational costs and benefits the environment. The space is also needed for growth. Expanding student populations require adequate room to learn and thrive.

A failing roof and other aging systems at Thomas Jefferson Middle School threaten safety and long-term costs. Replacement is necessary to protect the facility and prevent leaks, water damage and mold. It ensures safety by eliminating hazards and existing structural deterioration. Avoiding expensive emergency repairs and improving energy efficiency will reduce future costs as well.

These projects are essential for maintaining high-quality education and strengthening our community. Well-maintained schools attract families, boost property values, and create a better learning environment. This is not just spending—it’s a long-term investment in our children and our town.

Please vote yes on the PWSSD referendum on April 1.
