LETTER: Investing in schools is key to ‘strong, thriving community’

Quality education is a key component of a strong and thriving community. Many of the students in our district are or become employees of the businesses we enjoy and future leaders in our communities. A small investment in their future is a good investment for us all. 

As a parent of a former PWSSD student, I am thankful for the education my son received from our school district. To assure future students have the same opportunities and to retain quality educators and achievement-focused students and families in our district, adequate facilities are critical.

All students should have a fair opportunity to achieve their full potential. Learning is maximized in physical spaces that provide proper climate and noise control. Saukville Elementary has been well below standard for many years and is long overdue for replacement. A new school will not only provide a proper environment for instruction and learning but will also better protect our students and teachers from threats of violence that are becoming more commonplace.

Our new school superintendent, Michael McMahon, has experience with the Grafton School District and was able to successfully create a plan for continued growth, learning and facility maintenance. He is also open to exploring new initiatives from the business community to support our district through sponsorships, reducing the burden on taxpayers.

Please vote yes on the school referendum.
