LETTER: If politicians see voting fraud, their election wins are suspect

To Ozaukee Press:

The Trump administration continues to work against democracy. While our election system is far from perfect and this year presented many challenges for the public to overcome to express their will, the people did express their will. It is evident by the margin of victory and lack of evidence to the contrary that President Trump has lost.

It would go a long way to show leadership if our elected representatives would rise above party politics and call for moving forward, certifying Wisconsin’s vote and promoting a peaceful transition to the incoming Biden administration. They would best serve our district by upholding our democratic ideals and traditions.

Any election this year could be as hypothetically fraudulent as any other. Therefore, I call on Glenn Grothman, Robert Brooks and Duey Stroebel to either publicly validate this election and publicly state that there is a lack of evidence of any substantial fraud or illegal activity that would negate the results, or to publicly renounce the results and vacate their own seats.

The House of Representatives already passed attempted reforms to our election system (Securing America’s Federal Elections Act), which Grothman voted against, and has been put aside by the Senate. This included mandating hand-marked paper ballots (except for the disabled), elimination of network attachments to voting and tallying equipment and risk-limiting audits. Smart reforms like these would allow protection from tampering and evidence of the veracity of an election. Our state Assembly and Senate could make similar moves toward improved security measures while at the same time protecting the right to vote for all Wisconsinites.

Our elected representatives should do their duty to ensure the peaceful transition of power to the new administration, or pledge to not accept their own elections as valid.
