LETTER: How to reduce cost of county road safety upgrades by 90%

To Ozaukee Press:

Ozaukee County and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation want to spend $1 million to upgrade the intersections of County Highway NN, Pleasant Valley Road and County Highway Y. This is an absurd amount of money.

For $100,000 you could add rumble strips and solar powered blinking LED stop signs to Highway Y and Pleasant Valley Road in both directions, and add solar powered blinking LED caution signs on Highway NN in both directions and achieve the same degree of safety improvements as installing traffic lights and reconfiguring the intersection for $1 million.

It is disappointing that we have governmental officials proposing to frivolously overspend $900,000 on this project, especially in a time of tight budgets and reduced tax income.
