LETTER: Here is all you need to know to be ready to vote in primary
To Ozaukee Press:
Ozaukee County voters, are you ready for the Wisconsin primary election on Aug. 11? Here’s a plan to help you get ready.
First, make sure you’re registered to vote. Go to www.myvote.wi.gov to check your registration status. If you need to register, the deadline has passed for online and mail-in registration, but you can still do it at your municipal clerk’s office or at the polls on election day. Don’t forget your proof of residence. At myvote.wi.gov you can also find your clerk’s office, locate your polling place and see what’s on your ballot.
You can find out information about the candidates at various websites: vote411.org, ballotpedia.org and the campaign websites of Wisconsin Assembly District 60 candidates Chris Reimer and Robert Brooks. Another website, wiseye.org, has video interviews of the three Democratic candidates for U.S. Congressional District 6, Matthew Boor, Michael Beardsley and Jessica King.
On Aug. 11, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. In this age of Covid-19, avoid peak voting times (lunch and evening hours), wear a mask and social distance. Don’t forget to bring your photo ID. Early voting (in-person absentee voting) can be done at your clerk’s office starting two weeks before the election. If you have an absentee ballot, make sure it is returned by 8 p.m. Aug. 11.
