LETTER: Hello Hawkeye

David Haggarty explains how he got THIS fine photo in the yard of his Grafton home: “This beautiful sharp-shinned hawk sat with me for about 10 minutes recently, posing patiently on our bird feeder. Check out those red eyes!” Sharp-shinned hawks have lunch in mind when they visit bird feeders, but it’s not birdseed they’re looking for. Songbirds are part of these raptors’ diets. The compact hawks, the smallest seen in North America, are known for their acrobatic flying skills.
