LETTER: Hales Trail needs sidewalks like other Port neighborhoods

To Ozaukee Press:

There have been letters and articles in Ozaukee Press lately in regard to installing sidewalks on Hales Trail in Port Washington.

I live on Scott Road, which is a semi-circle off of West Norport Drive. As this road really goes nowhere, there is rarely anyone walking on the sidewalks. Yet there are 5-foot-wide sidewalks on both sides of the street, which all home owners must maintain.

As an avid walker, I guarantee that more people are walking on Hales Trail in the bluff neighborhood than on Scott Road. So why shouldn’t that area be treated the same as the rest of the city, where homeowners have no choice but to have sidewalks.

Several people objecting to the Hales Trail sidewalks mentioned that they are retired and can’t do the physical work of clearing the sidewalks of snow. I’m assuming they have driveways that need to be cleared, which involve a lot more square feet than sidewalks. I’m also retired and still need to have my sidewalk cleared.

It’s time to stop the double standard in this city or let other Port Washington residents have their sidewalks removed.
