LETTER: Hales Trail needs sidewalks to be safer for walking to park
To Ozaukee Press:
We need sidewalks in Port Washington connecting from the Interurban Trail all the way up Hales Trail to Upper Lake Park.
I am a homeowner with small children who uses this street to get to Possibility Playground. The street is extremely dangerous, with cars speeding to and from the park.
We have had many close calls due to the lack of sidewalks, especially around the bend in the road, as drivers don’t see the walkers until it is too late.
It is impractical to expect people with families to navigate this road without a sidewalk.
The homeowners on Hales Trail just don’t want to pay for the sidewalks; that is the real reason they oppose them. They need to realize that safety is the issue.
They should be no different than other Port Washington homeowners who have paid to have sidewalks installed in front of their homes.
This was just a long time coming for them, and now it’s going to happen.
