LETTER: For fairness, keep voting maps out of the hands of politicians

To Ozaukee Press:

A grassroots movement, Fair Maps WI, is working to ensure that Wisconsinites select their representatives, rather than allowing politicians to select their voters.

While Wisconsin achieved fairer legislative voting maps before the November 2024 election, there is nothing to prevent partisan gerrymandering again after the 2030 U.S. Census unless legislative and constitutional actions occur soon.

The Fair Maps WI proposal is based on successful models from other states and would create a permanent and independent redistricting process, a process that would make voting districts more competitive and less partisan. Broad public education and debate on this issue are essential to ensure that voters can hold elected officials accountable at the ballot box.

Ask your elected officials to learn more and support fair voting maps. You can find a public information session and follow this work at fairmapswi.com.
