LETTER: Facts, not opinions, needed to navigate these polarized times

To Ozaukee Press:

Getting the facts right in these polarized times is as challenging as walking a balance beam in the Olympics. (How many of us are a Simone Biles?) But it is necessary in order to maintain the fabric of our democracy.

One of last week’s letters to the editor in Ozaukee Press blamed “crazy chicken” Democrats for President Trump’s current impeachment woes. To set the record straight, it has been career civil servants and whistleblowers—non-partisans—who set the impeachment process in motion. It is their sworn duty to protect the Constitution, and we should all be thankful that these committed public servants have the country’s back.

We may not like the facts, but it is important that we support truth-finding, that we discern carefully to differentiate facts from opinions, and hold our public officials accountable accordingly.
