LETTER: Elected officials listen to gun makers but not constituents

To Ozaukee Press:

In 1994, Congress wisely passed the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which unfortunately expired 10 years later.

During this period, it is estimated that mass shooting fatalities were 70% less likely to occur. The law was never renewed, thanks to intense lobbying by the National Rifle Association and gun manufacturers.

What I cannot understand is why elected officials pay so little attention to the wants and needs of their constituents but serve those who fund their election campaigns. Since when are profits of gun manufacturers more important than the lives of innocent people?

When election time arrives, I will make certain not to vote for any politician who has accepted campaign contributions from either the National Rifle Association or any gun manufacturer.
