LETTER: Don’t force taxpayers to pay for Gableman and lawsuits

To Ozaukee Press:

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos hand-picked former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to be paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to “investigate” the November 2020 election. Now Gableman’s appointment has been extended at the urging of former President Donald Trump. Why? Because Trump threatened Vos with a primary challenger if Vos did not continue this so-called investigation.

As a taxpayer, I am tired of paying for investigations and lawsuits that members of the Wisconsin Senate and Legislature initiate for political gain. I’m tired of taxpayer money being used for exorbitant hourly attorney fees.

I would like to see a binding referendum placed on an election ballot proposing that a party (Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever) would have to contribute 30% to 40% of the cost of attorney fees for a political lawsuit. They can take up a collection from party members who believe in the lawsuit, but they must contribute something and not place the total burden on the taxpayers or request contributions from private contributors or PA’s. The burden of these lawsuits should not be placed solely on the shoulders of the taxpayer.

The citizens/taxpayers need to take back this country.
