LETTER: Democratic candidates pledge fairness, civility, transparency

To Ozaukee Press:

I view it as a precious gift to have been born into a democracy with the right to vote.

And I cannot think of a more critical election for exercising that right than the one on Nov. 6.

As chairman of the Democratic Party of Ozaukee County, I am proud that our Democratic slate is full of superbly qualified candidates for state and national office.

My buttons were busting with pride when incumbent U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin came to Port Washington last summer to walk in our Fish Day parade, cheerfully shaking hands and greeting locals.

We support her record of leadership on behalf of Wisconsin.

Dan Kohl’s deep family roots in Wisconsin history and his experience in Washington qualify him as ready to deliver the dignified representation we have needed in the 6th Congressional District.

Kohl’s not taking any corporate PAC money in this severely gerrymandered district drawn to unfairly favor incumbent Glenn Grothman, who is taking big donor money.

Our riches of Democratic candidates include two military veterans, Chris Rahlf, who is running for Wisconsin Assembly District 60 against Rob Brooks, and Emily Siegrist, who is running in District 24 against Dan Knodl.

Democrat Liz Sumner is running in Assembly District 23 against Jim Ott.

Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, are Wisconsin’s ticket back to sufficient state funding of our schools.

These Democratic candidates are committed to fairness, civility when working across the aisle, and transparency in government. Aren’t we all yearning for that?
