LETTER: Crawford was right about  Act ACT 10, deserves seat on court

To Ozaukee Press:

As a Vietnam veteran and a union member, I am writing in support of Susan Crawford to serve the people on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Over the weekend, I attended the demonstrations for Ukraine in Cedarburg and Grafton with other veterans, many of whom are at risk of job losses from Elon Musk’s cost cutting efforts. The world’s richest man wants to eliminate jobs for veterans performing public service as nurses and health officials and in other roles. Many of these veterans are women, who fought for the freedom to make their own health care decisions.

In the April 1 election, Wisconsin voters have an opportunity to show out-of-state billionaires like Elon Musk that their attacks on veterans and women won’t work.

In last week’s Ozaukee Press, a letter to the editor criticizing Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford for her past opposition to Act 10 stated that union dues are nothing more than a money pit for people running for office who support unions.

The Wagner Act of 1935 gives unions the right to exist. You can’t belong to any organization and receive benefits without paying dues. But Act 10 says that a person can enjoy the negotiated benefits that a union bargains for but they don’t have to pay dues to receive those benefits.

Union members work every day for their pay and benefits, unlike the legislators, who get $57,000 a year plus benefits for a part-time job.

I hope you will join me in standing up for Wisconsin’s fairness values by electing Susan Crawford to the Supreme Court
