LETTER: Challengers unanimously avoid voter forum for M-T election

To Ozaukee Press:

The League of Women Voters of Ozaukee County regrets that we will not be sponsoring a candidate forum for the Mequon-Thiensville School Board special election.

We  reached out to the eight candidates. One incumbent and the four challengers responded that they were not able to participate. The League cannot conduct a forum if only one candidate for a position is present.

The League of Women Voters neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate. We have a long history of sponsoring candidate forums with questions submitted by constituents. We believe that a cancelled nonpartisan forum is a missed opportunity for voters to become informed.

School Board positions are nonpartisan. In this special election, there are four separate races, with one challenger for each of the four incumbents. The election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2 for registered voters in Mequon and Thiensville.
