LETTER: Car ad beautiful as Christmas antidote to materialism

To Ozaukee Press:

As I write this note, I have in front of me the stunningly beautiful Christmas greeting from the Schmit Bros. car dealership in Port Washington-Saukville that appeared in last week’s Ozaukee Press.

This ad, in full color, is two full pages featuring the Nativity with the shepherds and their sheep paying homage to the newborn Christ Child.

My sincere gratitude to Mike and Jim Schmit and their crew—the team supreme! This ad from a car dealership raises a Christmas commercial to its highest level. How refreshing to see real class and insight revealing themselves in this Christmas season, when the majority of ads are simply another example of a culture trampled by trivia and mauled by materialism.

I have saved this ad in my Christmas file, with my handwritten note: “How refreshing to see a hint of Michelangelo in full color as an antidote to so much of our society, mangled by mediocrity.”
