LETTER: Calling BLM communist plot is flawed McCarthy-era thinking
To Ozaukee Press:
I wish to take issue with Barrett Genson’s letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press, “With Marxist ideology, BLM intent on tearing down U.S.
Genson indicates that Marxian doctrine (communism) is the driving force for the BLM movement. Are we returning to the McCarthy era when every form of dissent was labeled communist? I hope not.
Dissent is an integral component of the American system. Americans have many protections, such as Social Security and Medicare, that provide us with a better life. These protections are not part of a communist plot. The fight for civil rights has a long and ugly history. We could call it a work in progress, but I stress progress.
Labeling BLM a communist plot is flawed and shallow-minded. To peacefully assemble is a constitutional freedom, even today with demonstrators carrying firearms.
Let’s put aside the old labels and concentrate on solving societal problems, not making them.
