LETTER: Assembly candidate Andraca supports fair voting districts

To Ozaukee Press:
I want to acknowledge my sincere gratitude to Joanne Kaus, who came to my door two years ago and asked me to join the Ozaukee County Democrats. Actually, Joanne came more than once before her gentle persuasion overcame my hesitation. Because she did not give up on me, I am now a better-informed voter and a better citizen. I no longer cast ballots wondering if I made the right choice. I have learned how to access good information that informs my voting.
Person-to-person invitations, like I received from Joanne, will not be happening this election season because of pandemic safety concerns. I encourage your readers to welcome phone calls informing them of their district’s Democratic candidates.
I live in the 23rd Assembly District and had the pleasure of meeting Deb Andraca via Zoom. She is campaigning for the Assembly seat now occupied by Jim Ott. I am very grateful for Deb’s candidacy. Her values align with mine. She believes in common sense gun laws, knows excellent public schools are the foundation of strong communities and a strong economy.
She understands the critical need for lower health care costs, has experience in promoting environmental protections and understands the need for independent commissions to draw fair district maps to end gerrymandering.
Current gerrymandered districts preclude meaningful political discussions between parties on controversial issues. Sharing knowledge and working together to come to compromise is artful politics. Our country was founded on this premise. Now, more than ever, we need the art of good politics to bring liberty and justice to all.
