LETTER: ‘Beautiful Bill’ will force cuts in Medicare, Social Security
To Ozaukee Press:
If the Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill” passes with its huge tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires and corporations, it will explode the deficit by trillions. Medicaid and food assistance programs will be cut. Something the Republicans are not telling you is that because of the explosion of the deficit there will also be cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
Medicare and Social Security, by law, will have to be cut. According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill will trigger a sequestration that will legally require cuts to Medicare and Social Security. When Congress passes legislation that increases the deficit, the law requires sequestration (clawback) of funds from mandatory spending, which includes Medicare and Social Security. Republican senators know this. Their talk will distort the actual consequences of the bill.
Trump lied to America when he said he would not touch Medicare and Social Security. He lied to working class people when he said there would be no taxes on tips, overtime or Social Security; that is not in the bill. So here we are. We have a very dangerous bill that will change the lives of millions of Americans just so a very few people will get richer.
The average Social Security recipient in Wisconsin receives $1,957 per month, allowing that person to spend $65 per day. If you had Donald Trump’s net worth, which is estimated to be $5.5 billion dollars, you could spend $15 million per day. Do billionaires really need more money?
If the Republicans want to cut taxes, cut them on folks making $500,000 or less per year. We are the ones who keep the economy moving.
