Leona Glieber Fitzgerald

PAID OBITUARY
Leona Glieber Fitzgerald and her twin, Loretta Glieber Johannes, were born Aug. 6, 1919, into a large loving family in Port Washington. Mrs. Fitzgerald passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, in Winnsboro, Texas.
Her parents met in Milwaukee and fell in love. Hans Glieber and Mary Markowetz were both born in the Lintz region of Austria. Hans had been a famous zither player in New York City before moving to
Milwaukee to buy a hotel. Hans and Mary eventually moved to Port Washington to raise their growing family. The family belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington
The Glieber twins had many friends and were very talented. Leona still played the violin and gave a short concert to family a few years ago. After graduating from Port Washington High School in 1935,
Leona lived with her sister Annie and her family while working.
In August 1946, Leona married the love of her life, Roland Fitzgerald, after his return from World War II. They made their home in Port Washington.
Leona loved to travel. She and Roland regularly took day trips on his BMW motorcycle. Each year, Leona and her sisters always took a vacation together. Leona's favorite trip was to the Holy Land with Roland. When Leona and Roland moved to Knellsville, they joined St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington.
After Roland passed away, Leona moved to Dallas to be near her sons. She continued to travel the world, paint and make friends. After her son Ed's passing, Leona moved to Lake Cypress Springs to live with son Cliff and his wife Ann. Leona was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon, Texas, where she made many friends.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Clifford and Ann Fitzgerald; grandchildren Heather Morrow and her husband Ted, Thomas Fitzgerald, Lauren Marie Fitzgerald and Kelly Crowther; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Reagan; daughter-in-law Sherry Crowther; and numerous nieces; nephews; and other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Baby John Glieber, Frankie Glieber, Annie Glieber Steinlein, Eleanor Glieber Holt, Loretta Glieber Johannes and Marion Glieber Trepel; and sons John Roland Fitzgerald and Edmond Francis Fitzgerald.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Texas.
She will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon, Texas.
