Legion Auxiliary welcomes new members, honors poppy poster artist

The Landt-Thiel American Legion Auxiliary welcomed two new members, (from left in top left photo) Linda Guokas and Twila Nalezinski, who posed with Auxiliary President Mary Ellen Race, at its December meeting. Nalezinski is a Gold Star Mother, which is one whose son or daughter died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Her son, Blaze D. Nalezinski, who was serving in the Navy and was stationed at Naval Support Activity Souda Bay in Greece, died in July 2016. Also at the meeting, the Auxiliary honored Sumrah Rehman (top right photo), a student at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Port Washington, for winning first place in the Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary Most Outstanding Poppy Poster-Appeal and Neatness in the seventh-grade category. Presenting Sumrah with a certificate from the Saukville Auxiliary for participating in the contest was Prudence Petryskowski (left), the Auxiliary’s poppy chairwoman, and Race. Then, to top things off, Santa dropped Photos by Sam Arendt
