Learning to stay safe

Kindergarten and first-grade students had fun while they learned about ways they can keep themselves out of harm’s way during Safety Town, which was held at Dunwiddie Elementary School and run for the first time by the Port Washington Parks and Recreation Department this year. Although Safety Town is generally aimed at kindergarten students, a second session for first-graders was added this year since these youngsters missed out on the classes last year due to the pandemic. Clockwise from above left: Teaching Mayci Taylor, Isabel Thomas, Brian Traxel and Madison Vetter about boat safety were Taylor Pride, the director and lead teacher, and Madison Myers, group leader. Finnley O’Leary and Alex Mielke learned about safety on the roads from group leader Hadley Schwenzen. A group of youngsters put on their life vests during a lesson on water safety. Group leader Josie Tetcloff pointed out safety tips on posters that decorated the walls of the classes.                                                                                                                         Photos by Sam Arendt
