Lawn care is topic for Oct. 24 program

“Let’s Talk Lawns” is the theme for a 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, program sponsored by the Ozaukee Master Gardeners.

The presentation will be at the Kacmarick Center, 885 Badger Cir., Grafton.

The talk, presented by Doug Soldat, will focus on how to grow a healthy lawn while protecting the environment.

Soldat will provide research-based information on selecting the right grass seed, proper mowing height, weed control, watering and environmentally safe practices. In addition, he will offer tips on how to keep lawns looking their best throughout the season and what to do about No Mow May.

Soldat is a professor and turfgrass extension specialist in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in soil science at UW-Madison and earned a doctorate in plant science from Cornell University. His research and outreach programs are focused on improving turfgrass nutrient and water use efficiency.

He teaches courses on turfgrass management and general soil science at the University of Wisconsin.
