Laura Walsh

Laura C. Walsh of Port Washington died Friday, Oct. 11, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was 97.

Mrs. Walsh was born in Port Washington on March 12, 1922, to Peter and Anna Dahm Roelse.

She married Frank “Hugo” Walsh on June 28, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple lived on North Lakeview Avenue in Port Washington for many years.  

Mr. Walsh died on June 29, 1981.  

In 2006, Mrs. Walsh moved to Harbor Village in Port. She had been a licensed practical nurse in the building when it was St. Alphonsus Hospital.  

She also worked as a clerk at the former A&P grocery store in downtown Port and later in the deli department at Sentry Foods for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1986.

Her family said Mrs. Walsh lived a life of faith and was dedicated to help others. She enjoyed daily walks, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed playing bingo and slot machines.

Mrs. Walsh is survived by her stepson Eugene Walsh of Madison.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Viola Penkwitz, Alice Roelse and Loretta Roelse, stepson LeRoy Walsh and daughters-in-law Mary Ann Walsh and Jeanette Walsh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, in Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside.  

Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.

Memorials to St. John XXIII Parish are suggested
