KUDOS: Generous response followed Press story on food shortage

Rows of grocery carts were overflowing with donated food items after the Ozaukee Press news story reporting that the Port Food Pantry had almost run out of food for its burgeoning number of clients was published. The story was accompanied by a photo of Pat Kozak, the Pantry’s director (lower photo), standing beside bare food shelves. Kozak told the Press, “This is the shortest we’ve ever been. We used to have many hundreds of each item on our shelves. Now we’re buying food every week because we don’t have enough. We had to buy 800 cas of food for next week.”

To Ozaukee Press:

Thank you for the article on the Food Pantry in Port Washington on the front page of the Oct. 20 issue of Ozaukee Press, “Pantry’s cupboards are nearly bare,” and the photograph showing our empty shelves.

The response was overwhelming. Our grocery carts were soon overflowing.

Thank you again.

Pat Kozak
