James R. Fowler

James Fowler of the Town of Saukville passed away on March 26, 2020, at the Wright House Memory Care in Mequon.  He was 81 years old.

He was born in Port Washington on Sept. 20, 1938, the son of James Fowler and Lydia Mueller Fowler. He grew up in Port Washington, graduating from Port Washington High School with the Class of 1956.

On June 25, 1988, he married Angela Carroll at Holy Trinity Church in Newburg.

Jim worked as a baker, bartender and as the owner and operator of Fowler’s Restaurant in Port Washington. He finished his career as a custodian with the Port Washington-Saukville School District, retiring in 2003.

Jim was always generous with his time and his charitable gifts. He rarely was seen without a history book in his hands. His recollection of stories involving people he knew or met were both humorous and endless.

He had a fondness for experimental and military aircraft, which was reflected in his many models.

He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife Angie; son Jamie (Julie Werner) Fowler; and grandchildren Devin (Wade) Grosklaus and Sarah and James Fowler.

He is further survived by his brother Richard (Diane) Fowler; sisters-in-law Dianne (Brad) Shreffler, Sheila Carroll, Connie (David) Peterson, Colleen (Darrel) Eggers and Teresa (David) Nichols; daughter-in-law Kathy (Bryon) Woelfel; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Margaret (the late Neal) Nelson.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.

The Fowler family would like to thank the kind and dedicated staff of the Wright House and Kindred Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of donor’s choice.
