A homespun Independence Day in Port

Clockwise from left, a young bicyclist not only had flags in the handlebars of his bike, he also wore one like a cape during the parade. Enjoying a dish of ice cream after the parade were members of the Didier family of Port Washington, including Cash, 10, Ruby, 7, Clementine, 5, and Fiona, 5. Six-year-old Nora Yanke got a boost from her mother Melissa instead of relying on her wings to give her a bird’s eye view of Veterans Park during the festivities. Many of the youngsters not only decorated their bikes, they dressed to complement their rides during the parade. Photos by Sam Arendt
