Hoag is Pirate tennis team’s bright spot

Port Washington High School sophomore Wes Hoag provided the tennis team’s highlight at Cedarburg on May 4.

Hoag won his No. 4 singles match over James King, 6-1, 6-2.

“Wes Hoag played an incredible match. He was consistent, used depth and consistency to win his match,” coach Melonie Zielinski said.

The Bulldogs dominated most of the rest of the matches, winning in straight sets in all but one. At No. 2 singles, Dawson Froemming beat Gabe Welton, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Chatton Haws beat Jakub Micha, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Alex Sikora beat Sam Kopp, 6-0, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Brandon Khmelevsky and Keenan Haws beat Conner Cowen and Luke Markiewicz, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 2, Brennan Claypool and Carter Fast beat Mikey Ross and Lucas Poull, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, David Smith and Grant Shipley beat Keenan O’Connell and Walker Malouf, 6-1, 6-2.

Port was scheduled to play at Grafton on Tuesday, in a Sheboygan North Invite on Saturday, then starts the North Shore Conference Tournament by playing at Whitefish Bay and hosting Slinger on Tuesday, May 17. Port plays at Nicolet on Wednesday, May 18.
