Harbor Freight Tools has eyes on the former Pick ’n Save building in Grafton.

The California-based company recently filed a conditional use application to set up shop in the long-vacant building at 1827 Wisconsin Ave.

Harbor Freight Tools is a discount tools provider that has more than 1,300 locations across the country.

It was founded in 1977 by CEO Eric Schmidt and remains family owned.

Plans submitted to the Grafton Plan Commission state the store would include 10,652 square feet of sales space, 6,084 square feet of storage and 712-square feet of office space for a total of 17,448 square feet.

According to submitted documents, owners hope to have the new store renovated and operating by July 14.

The shop would staff 10 employees during each of its three shifts and would operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A maximum of 207 people could shop at the store at once.

If approved for the space, Harbor Freight Tools would fill a long-vacant storefront just as the neighboring former Shopko building receives a new tenant.

The former Shopko building at 1771 Wisconsin Ave. sat empty for nearly three years before plans to open a Blain’s Farm & Fleet in the space came to fruition.

The new Grafton store will occupy 94,500 square feet and feature an automotive service center, full drive-through area and small-engine repair center, in addition to selling clothing, footwear, tools and hardware, paint, home goods, pet products and gardening supplies.

With renovations underway on the location, the Farm & Fleet store is expected to open this fall.
