Happy 102nd birthday, Mabel

When Mabel Schreiber, a former Cedarburg and Mequon resident, turned 102 on Aug. 20, she was surprised at her home at Samaritan Campus in West Bend when Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann (left) presented her with a commendation as Eric Moderski of Samaritan Campus stood by. When Schoemann chatted with Schreiber, she told him she didn’t feel much different at 102. “I can eat yet. I sleep good. I’m still getting around,” she said. “I suppose I’ll be heading to 105 — you never know. I might be laying in bed by then though.” Mabel was born at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington on Aug. 20, 1918, and worked as a beautician and school bus driver in Cedarburg for much of her life. She was married to Milton Schreiber, and the couple had three children, “lots and lots of grandkids, great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids,” Schoemann noted in his presentation.
