Gymnastics competition is regularly challenging in the North Shore Conference, but that hasn’t affected the Port Washington High School team’s effort.
“I continue to be impressed with the girls’ efforts and the improvements they are making, especially in our third and fourth scoring positions,” coach Gale Sigler said.
On Jan. 24, the Pirates lost at Hartford, 134.9-110.025. Port’s best all-arounder, Maddie Mellesmoen, was out with an injury.
Clare Ritter led on vault with 7.95, followed by Grace Baumann’s 7.55, Willow Rogers’ 7.4 and Milena Valasek’s 7.3.
Baumann led on beam with 7.725.
Ritter had 7.4 on floor exercise. Baumann had 7.325, Rodgers 7.35 and Valasek 7.05.
“It’s so rewarding to see the new skills coming together for these girls. Willow Rogers introduced a new floor routine that really was fantastic and landed her in the top four for our team,” Sigler said.
On Jan. 30, Port lost at home to Homestead, 132.225-114.275.
Ritter scored a team and personal high on vault of 8.2. Mellesmoen was back and got 8.1. Valasek had 7.95 and Rogers had 7.75.
Mellesmoen led on bars with 7.5 and beam with 7.75. Baumann had a 7.275 on beam.
Mellsemoen had 7.725 on floor. Ritter had 7.65 and Baumann 7.3.
Port was to host Grafton/Cedarburg on Wednesday, Feb. 7, and nonconference foe Shorewood on Wednesday, Feb. 13, before the North Shore Conference meet.
“I get to see the team’s effort and improvement each day in the practice gym. Now it’s time for them to show everyone else. It’s super exciting,” Sigler said.
