Grafton volleyball goes 2-1 in playoff matches

The No. 4-seeded Grafton High School volleyball team won its first two division 2 playoff matches before being swept by No. 1-seeded Kettle Moraine Lutheran.

The Black Hawks on Oct. 16 swept No. 13-seeded Milwaukee Messmer at home, 25-9, 25-2, 25-9.

Last Thursday, the Hawks beat No. 5-seeded Sheboygan Falls, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, at home.

On Saturday, the Hawks lost at KML, 25-17, 25-17, 25-8, to end their season.

Cedar Grove-Belgium earned a 6 seed in the division 3 playoffs and knocked off visiting No. 11 seed Shoreland Lutheran on Oct. 16, 21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-16.

Maria Dries had nine kills, and Olivia Robertson had eight. Shelby Cooney had 25 digs, Bailey Cooney had 21 and Kelsey Lukens had 15. Caitlin Soerens had 16 assists, and Claire Jaworski had eight.

The Rockets on Thursday lost at Racine St. Joseph, 20-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-18.

Cooney and Robertson each had nine kills. Dries had six blocks and Maddie Sutryk five. Shelby Cooney made 19 digs, Lukens had 12 and Bailey Cooney nine. Soerens had 18 assists and Jaworski nine.
