The Grafton School District has begun offering students, staff members and the people they live with free coronavirus testing at the district office.

The initiative started Nov. 9 after the district formed partnerships with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Accelerated Clinical Laboratories.

To be tested, people must register on the district website, fill out a questionnaire about symptoms and can go to the district office at 1900 Washington St. anytime between 8 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. for their test.

Testing will be done in vehicles. Parking spots have been designated for those receiving tests.

Those who are tested at the site will receive both Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests and rapid antigen tests.

PCR test results will be emailed within 24 to 48 hours, and rapid test results will be emailed in 15 minutes.

Those who test negative for Covid but are ill are to remain home until symptoms have resolved, a press release from the district stated.

According to the district’s 2021-2022 School Year Plan, when a person in a household tests positive, all members of the household must quarantine 7 to10 days after the person’s isolation period, or 17 to 20 days.

Vaccinated members of the household may return to school after the positive person’s isolation period ends. If the positive person can isolate from others, the vaccinated individuals in the house may return to school immediately if there are no symptoms.

Therefore, according to the policy, parents who utilize the new testing service and receive a positive result for themselves need to contact their student’s school main office as soon as possible to inform them.

“It is our hope that this partnership with ACL offers a more convenient and accessible testing option for the students, staff and families of the Grafton School District,” the press release stated. “We appreciate your support and continued efforts to keep our students, staff, and communities safe.”
