Grafton, Port swim teams alter their lineups for the fun of it
Port Washington and Grafton high schools had their boy swimmers try some new events in meets last week.
The Pirates had 19 personal records, coach Brittany Roecker said, in a 123-63 loss at Cedarburg on Jan. 7.
Cale Theis won diving with 254.15 points, and the Pirates had five seconds:
Cody Seitz, 50-yard freestyle, 24.39 seconds, and 100 butterfly, 1:02.82; Neil Tumey, 100 freestyle, 57.35; 200 medley relay team of Tumey, Seitz, Alex Sharbuno and Shane McConahy, 1:56.51; and the 200 freestyle relay team of Seitz, Joe
Huebner, Sharbuno and McConahy, 1:40.28.
Port was to swim at Kiel on Tuesday, at West Bend Co-op on Thursday and at a Manitowoc Lincoln invite on Saturday.
Grafton won three events in a 94-75 loss at Hartford/Slinger on Jan. 7.
Michael O’Connor won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.93 and the 100 freestyle in 54.14.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Lance Greicar, Todd O’Connor, Jackson King and Michael O’Connor won in 3:54.84.
The Black Hawks had six seconds: Todd O’Connor, 500 freestyle, 5:55.44, and the 200 freestyle, 2:10.03; Andrew Slagter, 100 butterfly, 1:13.77, and the 100 breaststroke, 1:13.28; the 200 freestyle relay team of Gabriel Mietowski, Braedyn
King, Slagter and Andy Rose, 1:49.49; and the 200 medley relay team of Greicar, Slager, King and Michael O’Connor.
Hartford’s pool doesn’t have a diving board so the meet didn’t include diving.
“I thought the guys did a good job rising to the challenge, swimming in events they weren’t planning on swimming at the beginning of the year,” coach Mark Minz said.
Last Saturday’s invite at Cedarburg was canceled due to weather. Port and Grafton were planning to compete.
The Hawks host Homestead on Thursday.
