Grafton’s Faust, mile relay keep rewriting record books
Grafton High School junior Callie Faust ran the fastest she has since the state meet last season, and that was enough to break her own school record last Friday at the Dan Benson Invite in Homestead.
Faust won the 3,200-meter run in 11 minutes, 22.97 seconds.
That wasn’t the only record set. The Black Hawks’ 1,600 relay of Emily Sewell, Abby Barthelemy, Marissa Morgan and Cali Tagliapietra set a meet record in 4:04.88.
“That’s a very impressive performance as the Benson is in its 44th year of existence,” coach Jason Meinen said.
The girls scored 95 points and finished fourth in the 10-team meet. Nicolet had 121.5, Wauwatosa West had 101 and Wauwatosa East had 97.
Faust also won the 1,600 in 5:15.56, and Josie Gasser won the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 8.5 inches. Tatum Wiedenhaft was second in the shot put with a throw of 39-1. Evelyn Schaetz was second in the discus with a throw of 102-6.
Morgan was third in the 400 in 1:04.18, and the 400 relay of Erin Brezovar, Barthelemy, Tagliapietra and Sewell was third in 51.49 seconds.
The boys scored 43 points and finished eighth. Nicolet won with 121.5.
Tyler Heinle had Grafton’s highest finish, fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20-5.5.

Senior Alex Anewenter led the 1,600 from start to finish and ran a personal-best 4:31.02.
Junior Jameson Koebel won the 3,200 in 10:01.18, outkicking a runner on the final lap to preserve the win, coach Mark Pasten said.

ThiLar Goodman was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.8 seconds and was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 42.5 seconds.
“Those are both personal best times and outstanding for a sophomore in early May,” Pasten said.
