The last indoor track and field meet of the season will be one to remember for the Grafton High School girls.

The Black Hawks broke five school records in the Wisconsin State Indoor Meet at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Callie Faust, already the school’s recordholder in cross country, broke the 1,600-meter run record in 5 minutes, 13.95 seconds, good for eighth place. She also broke the 800 record in 2:23.81, finishing 12th.

Tatum Wiedenhaft broke the shot put record with a distance of 39 feet, 11 inches and took second.

The 1,600 relay of Emily Sewell, Abby Barthelemy, Marissa Morgan and Cali Tagliapietra broke the school mark in 4:10.92, taking third.

Josie Gasser broke the triple jump record with a distance of 33-11.5 inches and finished eighth.

The only other event Grafton competed in was the long jump. Gasser was 16th with 15-11.

Coach Jason Meinen said the team “put on a performance that I had not seen in my 24 years of coaching track and field.

“It’s hard to put it all into words, but each of these girls has state experience and they all work super hard each day in practice. They love to be challenged.  They are a very motivated group and want to get back to the official state meet in June and improve upon their past results.”

The indoor marks bode well for outdoor season.

“It’s so much easier to run outdoors than indoors. Our schedule outdoors is always super competitive - especially within the North Shore Conference - and it prepares us for what we will see at sectionals and state. As long as we stay healthy, I’m excited to see where this group will end up.”

The girls, competing against mostly Division 1 schools, scored 16 points and tied for ninth with Amery and Franklin. Neenah won with 39 points.

The boys had four entries. The best finish was Jack Marti’s long jump of 20-1.

The best finish was the 1,600 relay of  ThiLar Goodman, Alex Anewenter, Jameson Koebel and Jayden Lathrop, which finished in 3:38.86 and took 14th of 33 teams.
