Funeral home plans to open in Wisconsin Ave. office building
A funeral home is moving into the Grafton office building that shares a parking lot with Horicon State Bank.
The Plan Commission on Tuesday approved plans by mortician Craig Plopper to open the home in March in the 4,600-square-foot, two-story building on Wisconsin Avenue.
“We are looking forward to your presence in our community,” Village President Dan Delorit said.
Plopper plans to build an elevator to the second floor where a memorial service area and office will be. The first floor will have another office, a reception area, embalming room and garage.
Cremations will be performed off-site. The plans state there will be a maximum of 10 gallons of embalming fluid stored at the property at a time.
Plopper expects to have at most 75 people for funeral services, which he expects to host once or twice a month, mostly during non-business hours to maximize parking availability.
Plopper previously worked as a funeral director at Mueller Funeral Home, which has locations in Cedarburg and Grafton.
The plans still need to be reviewed by the Architectural Review Board.
